The Global Emerging Markets Risk Database (GEMs) Consortium, a joint initiative of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), was established in 2009 to improve transparency and understanding of credit risk in emerging markets. By pooling anonymized lending data from multilateral development banks and development finance institutions, GEMs has created one of the world's largest credit risk databases. GEMs produces statistics on default rates, recovery rates, and portfolio performance across regions, sectors, and income groups, helping investors, regulators, and financial institutions strengthen risk management and make better-informed decisions. The Consortium also promotes collaboration among member institutions through shared methodologies, expertise, and best practices. The latest report presents default and recovery statistics for private lending from 1994 to 2025, based on pooled data from 22 member institutions, providing valuable benchmarks for portfolio analysis, capital allocation, and credit risk modeling. Since 2021, GEMs has made its aggregated statistics publicly available, expanding their value to investors, academics, regulators, and other market participants. In 2025, GEMs appointed Galytix (GX), in collaboration with PwC, as its new Data Aggregator to modernize data management through advanced AI capabilities and enhance credit risk analysis. Through data-driven insights, transparency, and collaboration, GEMs continues to support sustainable investment and economic development across emerging markets.es_ES
